Charlotte Dumps Thuggish Pembroke Side 31-10
Match Called at Half for Rough Play
Story By Tom Inch

The 49ers showed their classy side today, restraining themselves in what otherwise could have turned into an ugly affair. Charlotte started slow, trading scores with the Braves until erupting over a 14 minute span for four unanswered scores.
At 15 minutes, a lofted kick from defense only found the Pembroke full back who ran through a series of poor tackles, to score in the corner, bringing the scores level.
This was the slap in the face that woke the UNCC team to the powerful display of rucking and flowing running that followed. The next try on 19 min followed a penalty kick to touch at the 5m line. A messy line out was cleaned up by several phases of ruck and recycle, taking play up to the goal line for Stephen (prop) to power his way over the last meter.
At 26 minutes, more effective rucking and recycling by the pack in the midfield sucked in the Pembroke defence and gave Jake(full back) the space to run at the defence and after a superb cut back inside, scored under the posts.
At 34 minutes, another great run from Jake set up a ruck about 5 meters from the goal line. UNCC had the numbers and the power to easily win the ruck, but in a senseless act, the Pembroke full back, pick up and dumped Chris ( winger) on his shoulder, resulting in his sending off (RED) and our only injury of the day. The penalty was run at the defence and from the ruck, Stephen ran in for his second try, which was converted taking the score to 31 - 10.
At this point the match took a turn for the worse with "play" getting so out of hand the match official was forced to call the match with 3 minutes still remaining in the first half.
Amongst the chaos Charlotte's players showed an exceptional level of restraint and class worthy of the mean green tradition.

Charlotte Continues Strong Play With Win Over Wingate
Story By Tom Inch

Charlotte improved to 2-0 with a convincing 41-8 win over Wingate. The field was very narrow and it took our lads a half to realise the lack of width and adjust to a tighter game. Backs looked dangerous on every occasion. Most of the new guys got a run out in the second half, with Eric, back row, and Mike, hooker both scoring. Man of the match went to Jake, who was solid under the high ball, kicked intelligently under pressure and made two outstanding, try saving tackles. Nii took a serious injury to his ankle, which will put him out for several weeks, together with Brendan, back row who also took a serious ankle injury during training.

Charlotte Opens 2011 By Blanking Western
Story By Tom Inch

Charlotte opened the 2011 campaign with a 34-0 win over W.C.U. The boys dominated all but the first few minutes of the game. After a shaky start they were never out of the opposition half for most of the game. 22 - 0 at half time allowed for most of the new guys to get a run out in the 2nd half. In a difficult choice, man of the Match went to Nii, prop, who's tackling, runs with the ball and mobility to the ruck's was outstanding. Particular mention should go to RJ, hooker, who had never touched a rugby ball, till a few weeks back. He played well above his rookie status.
